Obviously there’s much more we’d love to tell you about working with ROC. So here are some of the questions we get asked most frequently.

- Who are ROC?
- ROC is a subsidiary of Esso Petroleum Company Limited.
- How many sites does ROC operate?
- ROC operates 386 stores in total, 347 in the UK and 39 in Ireland.
Applying to ROC UK Limited
- I'm under 18 - Why can't I apply?
- Due to petroleum and licensing laws we are unable to accept applications from those under the age of 18.
- I'm not eligible to work in the UK, what can I do?
- Unfortunately we are unable to accept applicants who are not eligible to work in the UK.
- What provisions do you make for disabled employees?
- ROC is committed to equal opportunities in employment for all applicants irrespective of disability, age, race or sexual orientation. On your application form we will ask for any special requirements you may have, so we may make any adjustments as appropriate.
- I haven't had any experience in the petrol industry; does this matter?
- As long as you can demonstrate that you have the skills we require for the role you are applying for, then we will welcome your application, as we will provide extensive training should your application be successful.
- Can I download the application form or get a paper copy?
- It is not possible to download an application form; you can complete an application online or if you are interested in a Sales Adviser role, viti your local store for a paper version.
- How often are the vacancies on the website updated?
- All the vacancies we have on the website are current.
- Is every vacancy shown on the website?
- All management roles are advertised on our website. Sales Adviser roles are often advertised onsite rather than on the website, so please check in at your local ROC sites!
- Why is my local store not showing on the website?
- Usually, we only advertise management vacancies on our website. However, if you would like to work in your local store as a Sales Adviser, pop in and ask for an application form.
- I'm having trouble answering the Starscreener questions on the Sales Adviser application form. What should I do?
- Imagine you are working in a petrol station - for each question, which is the best action to take in the particular situation and which is the worst action to take?
- What is the selection process?
- We will first ask you to complete an application form online for your chosen role which will cover your personal details and the key basic requirements for the relevant role. If your application form meets our basic requirements, you will be invited to a telephone interview. If you successfully pass the telephone interview, you will be invited to complete a numerical and verbal reasoning test online. Once successful, dependent upon the job role you have applied for, you will either be invited to an interview or an assessment centre.

- Will I be contacted if I am not successful?
- All applicants will be contacted via email if unsuccessful.
- If I am not successful can I apply again?
- Yes, you can apply again six months from the date of your initial application.
- I have been recommended by a friend; will they be paid their bonus?
- Please tick the box that states you have been recommended on the 'source' page towards the end of the application and record your friend's name. Upon joining ROC, subject to terms and conditions, your friend will receive their bonus.
- Can I email ROC with a question or to follow up on my application?

Your Interview
- Why do you do telephone interviews?
- Telephone interviews are a very important part of our selection process as they give applicants the chance to go into more detail regarding their work and life experiences.
- What do I need to bring to my face to face interview?
- All applicants are required to bring their current passport, National Insurance number and proof of eligibility to work in the UK if applicable.
Working for ROC UK Limited
- Do I have to wear a uniform?
- ROC has two store formats; On The Run and Snack & Shop. You will be required to wear the appropriate uniform for the store format.
- Do you offer a pension as part of your benefits package?
- If you are an Assistant Manager, Store Manager or Graduate Store Manager, ROC provides a Group Personal Pension plan. You may contribute to the plan on a personal basis from your date of joining ROC. As soon as you have completed 3 months service and satisfactorily completed your training/induction period, ROC will match your contribution by up to 6% of your salary.
If you are a Sales Adviser or Supervisor, ROC provides the option for you to either join the ROC Pension Plan or the ROC Stakeholder Pension Plan. You may contribute to the plan on a personal basis from your date of joining ROC. - How quickly will I be promoted?
- This is very much dependent upon your ambition and ability. We will offer opportunities to progress and develop according to the skills, knowledge and behaviour that you are able to demonstrate.
