Details of the scheme

How do I get started?

  • First you need to make the decision that you want to improve your career prospects.
  • Then talk with your Store Manager to see if you’re eligible.
  • Your Store Manager will arrange for you to meet with a mentor from Protocol for an induction and initial assessment.

Who will support me?

  • Your Store Manager will help and support you.
  • Your Protocol mentor will be someone who understands the issues and challenges you face at work. He or she will be able to gear training around your ambitions.

What will the training involve?

  • Learning will be on the job and fun. It's not text books and essays - it's about performing your job well while someone monitors you.
  • Once a month, your mentor will visit you to see how things are going and assess your performance against the standards of the qualification. (Because ROC training has been accredited, you’ll succeed simply by following company procedures to the highest standards).
  • Learning is an ongoing and gradual process, and you’ll be expected to complete individual learning assessments every month. These assessments will be work-based, so you can apply what you’ve learnt right away.

What will I need to commit to?

  • For the Retail diploma level 2, you will need to commit about six months of your time.
  • This will start with a 2 hour induction; one hour will be work time the other will be your time.
  • You will perform your role and be assessed while doing it.
  • There will be some work to do outside working hours - but most assessment is done 'on the job'. A protocol trainer will observe you doing your job.
  • You may want to arrange meetings at shift change so you can spend a little longer with your trainer.

Of course, this is just an overview. We’d love you to find out more, so why not contact your line manager ASAP?
